Our Story

The Beginning

It all started at a very classy 18+ Ohio club - yes, seriously.

Aaron and Wei were introduced at this fine establishment through a mutual friend (shoutout to our Maid of Honor, Elizabeth), while Aaron was studying at OSU and Wei was at NYU in January 2013. Elizabeth insisted they meet; either because she just knew they’d be a forever match, or because they happened to share the same last name (we'll let her take credit for both.)

Sure enough, they hit it off right away, and it wasn’t long before Aaron was hoping to make it official. But long-distance wasn’t exactly in Wei’s plans, especially in the middle of college life in New York - but Aaron had other ideas. Over two years, and a lot of very polite rejections, he never gave up on trying to make it official. Eventually, Wei said yes... just in time for Aaron to move to California.

After a year of coast-to-coast long distance, Aaron moved to New York City in 2016, and they've been here ever since...celebrating college graduations, navigating new jobs (6 total!) between the two, and adopting one very cute dog.

The Engagement

Aaron had been secretly planning the perfect proposal for months. He picked out the ring, found the dream location (Untermeyer Gardens in New York), and crafted a foolproof plan to catch Wei completely by surprise: convince her they were going to a mandatory work BBQ. No questions. No confirming with friends. Just trust. (Suspicious? A little. Effective? Shockingly, yes.)

Despite a few last-minute hurdles, including Avis Rental Car Meltdown 2024, Aaron managed to get Wei to the gardens on June 15th, 2024. As they walked through the flowers and fountains, Aaron tried to play it cool, even though his heart was racing.

When they reached the perfect spot, Aaron turned to Wei, pulled out the ring... and immediately forgot half of what he planned to say. Words came out in random order - some heartfelt, some totally improvised - but the look on Wei’s face said everything. She started crying almost instantly (the happy kind), and somewhere in the middle of Aaron’s nervous rambling, she said yes.

P.S. Aaron may have shed a tear too, but if you ask him, that never happened.
